The Wetlands Trail Project is a project of the Rotary Club of Sale together with Parks Victoria and the Wellington Shire.
The vision is to complete the trails network around the Sale Common managed by Parks Victoria.
The project builds on previous work which form the core of the existing walking and cycling tracks near and within the Common.
The late John Leslie O.B.E. generously supported these stages and has again posthumously committed significant financial support to the final part of the project described here.
The current trail network starts from the Port of Sale and takes in the unique environment of the Sale Common and wetlands precinct.
Whilst the current trail network around the wetland is usable it does not have a consistent surface for visitors to walk or cycle on.
This can be a barrier for some sections of the community and prevent them from enjoying this wonderful asset on our doorstep.
The plan is to complete the Trail around the perimeter of the Sale Common to provide a low impact, immersive nature-based experience for tourists and the community.
This will allow visitors to fully appreciate the diverse environment of the Sale Common.
The Trail route will connect with existing trails and therefore also include land controlled by the Wellington Shire.
A Planning Permit has been submitted to Council with the support of Parks Victoria.
The project includes several separate components which are summarised on the plan attached.
Rotary has secured the necessary funding to complete this project if and when it receives all the necessary approvals.
